Elusive Octagonal 1874 Liberty Head Dolalr BG-1110, High Rarity-7 1874 Octagonal $1. BG-1110. Rarity-7+. Liberty Head. MS-63 PL (NGC). Plain edge. Lively orange-gold surfaces are reflective in the fields and frosty on the motifs. Manufactured by Herman J. Brand in San Francisco from one of Gray & Co.'s Small Liberty Head dies, the portrait close to the circulating Type I gold dollars. Only a tiny number of BG-1110 dollars can be accounted for; the second edition of the Breen-Gillio reference lists a roster of just seven piecesand notes that the list "includes some duplication." Pleasing for the grade and certain to cause a stir in the bidding activity. PCGS# 10921.
