- 1855-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 38-CC. Medium D. VG-10 (PCGS). Bright medium gold color with tinges of pale olive evident as the surfaces turn away from direct lighting. The rims are distinct, all major design elements are fully appreciable, and the all important date and mintmark are sharp. Given the ranking of this issue as the third rarest Dahlonega Mint half eagle (per Doug Winter, 2013) this extensively circulated, yet nicely preserved survivor is sure to see spirited bidding at auction.
