1802/1 Capped Bust Right Half Eagle. BD-7. Rarity-5. AU-55 (PCGS). This impressive AU-55 1802/1 BD-7 half eagle has surfaces that are very attractive and well struck, the last with only a few exceptions. The surfaces are pleasing overall, with the residual luster intact and the strike above average for this scarce issue. Examples of this variety were struck both before and after the early die state of 1803 BD-1, as evidenced by examining the reverse on various specimens. This neatly verifies that 1802-dated coins were struck in 1803 or later, a well known fact, but interesting to contemplate with the evidence given here.
