While 1,074,760 silver dollars dated 1871 were struck at the Philadelphia mint, many were exported overseas, mainly for the Asian trade. Although common in circulated grades, in Mint State this date is very scarce, and EXTREMELY RARE any finer than the presently offered MS64. Warmly toned overall on both sides, the satiny lustrous surfaces gleam with a glowing mint frost. Soft slate, lilac, and hints of rose. There are some light lines and contact marks seen under the color, accounting for the assigned grade, but have minimal impact on the outstanding eye appeal. The details are crisply rendered by an exacting strike and the eye appeal is very pleasing. PCGS 46, NGC 38, CAC 17. The most recent example to sell realized $6,463 in our July 2022 sale of the M&S Petty Collection. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $6,750 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $7,500. RARE finer, this coin will find itself in a nice set of type coins or Seated dollars. Cert.
