Netherlands--West Friesland. 1670 Lion Daalder. MS-61 (PCGS). The silver-gray surfaces are alive with luster and varied rose and champagne gold toning highlights. The typical weak strike is noted at the centers -- lion daalders are extremely rare with a bold, full strike. An unusually high grade for a lion daalder (or dollar) -- these are most often seen VG to VF with an occasional EF or AU thrown into the mix. This is the sort of coin that is graded by surfaces and not the strike, otherwise virtually all lion daalders would be called VF or so. Choice for the grade.
