The glossy deep rose-brown surfaces of this attractive large cent offer some scattered marks to the unaided eye, but the overall impression is one of quality, both aesthetically as well as in the physical sense. The overdate details are plainly evident under low magnification. The present specimen is among the three finest examples of the issue certified by PCGS; there are two AU-53 examples including this coin, with an amazing MS-65 RB coin the only specimen graded finer by the firm. Nicely struck from clashed dies with heavy clash marks prominent on the reverse. There are die cracks that run from the rim through ICA and into the wreath ribbon end as well as into the fraction's denominator. Die swelling at the fraction softens that area as well as ER in LIBERTY on the obverse. All things considered, you will be hard-pressed to find an example of Sheldon-191 with more "pizzazz" than the present example.
