Undated (Circa 1785) Bar Copper. W-8520. AU-50 (PCGS). 86.5 grains. The golden-tan and olive-brown surfaces of this attractive Bar copper afford a brassy overall look suggestive of a long-ago cleaning. Scattered marks are present o the unaided eye, the most visible of these in the field near the viewer's left upright of the U on the obverse; most other marks are trivial at best. The reverse diagnostic, a tiny spur from the lower right end of the second bar (or the upper left end of the 12th bar, depending on your sense of "right-side up") is plainly evident on this sharp specimen. The Bar copper is reportedly modeled after Continental Army uniform buttons of the same era. One for the specialists.
