- 1852 Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 2-B. MS-63 (PCGS). Visually impressive surfaces exhibit streaks and blushes of olive, russet and steel-gray patina to softly frosted mint luster. Sharply struck. Scarcer than even a limited mintage of 177,060 pieces might imply, the 1852 suffered a high rate of attrition through melting during the run up in silver prices during the early 1850s. Larry Briggs (The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters, 1991) assigns this issue a Rarity-5 rating in Mint State. PCGS# 5419. NGC ID: 23T8.
