THE SOMMELIER COLLECTION Ex Eric P. Newman Collection. HM-1. This is a wonderful, totally original AU58, which was impounded for generations in the famed Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Collection. A rich orange gold color has tinges of tan and olive that was slowly acquired thanks to years of benign neglect, where this coin sat unmolested in Newman's collector envelope. Generally well struck in the central portions of the design, and there is just a touch of weakness in some of the stars. Interesting die cracks are seen on the obverse. We note just the slightest trace of contact and friction from its brief time in commercial channels. Needless to say, this coin's originality imparts a stunning visual allure. PCGS 32, NGC 72, CAC 7. As an NGC-graded coin in the sale of the Eric P. Newman Collection, Part V, this coin brought $2,115 in November 2014. The last PCGS/CAC coin brought $1,920 in December 2019. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $2,100 and the CAC CPG value is listed at $2,120. Surprisingly scarce in Mint State, despite its huge mintage.
