CHINA. Chihli (Pei Yang Arsenal). Pattern 10 Tael (Liang) Mule, ND (ca. 1899-1900). PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. cf.KM-Pn3; cf.CCC-298; K-pg. 331-32; Duan-Unlisted; CL-Unlisted. Struck in brass with reeded edge using two reverse dies. EXTREMELY RARE. Proposed design for a Tael series based on the gold standard. Sharply struck with design features in high relief with lovely mahogany patina throughout and just a touch of olive atop of the devices. Very attractive and very interesting worthy of a premium bid.
