- All 1953-S coins seem to have a striking problem; the 53-S Franklin half dollar is a rarity with Full Bell Lines. Likewise, the 53-S Jefferson nickel is RARE with Full Steps. The present example was struck from a late die state with details flowing to the peripheral areas and the reverse shows much die fatigue. While there is weakness elsewhere on Monticello (typical of the date), the steps are fully separated. Frosty lustrous, the reverse has a great golden patina that gives this near-GEM a great look. PCGS 17, NGC 0. The most recent example sold nearly five years ago for $3,290 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is $2,500.
