FROM THE M & S PETTY COLLECTION This is a truly spectacular and CHOICE example of this low mintage date. As gold flooded the economy from California, the ratio of gold to silver went out of balance, and the price of silver rose. Many silver dollars were exported and melted down for bullion. Mint State survivors of this low mintage are VERY RARE, EXCESSIVELY so any finer. Highly Prooflike lustrous fields really pop dramatically in the light. The underlying flashy brilliance enhances the rich, multicolored, dappled iridescent toning. Depending on the angle the light hits the surfaces, variegated lilac, dove, pewter, gold, olive, coppery-orange, slate, and antique silver pop. We love the look of this very CHOICE and totally original 1850 dollar. The details are crisp and show off full, razor sharp definition. The eye appeal is exceptional in every way and the more we look at this highly alluring example, the more we love it! The other CAC-approved examples have sold in the $10,000-$20,000 range, this one around the mid-point as NGC MS64 CAC at $14,688.
