- Exceptional 1787 Newman 13-X Fugio Copper NGC MS-65+ BN 1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 13-X, W-6855. Rarity-2. STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils. MS-65+ BN (NGC). An exceptionally well preserved, highly appealing example of this popular die marriage among Fugio coppers. Glossy copper-brown surfaces exhibit a smooth, hard, satiny texture to both sides. The strike is ideally centered within fully denticulated borders, all design elements boldly to sharply rendered. This is an easy die marriage of the type to attribute, the obverse heavily clashed (as struck) in the right field and the reverse being the workhorse die X with a prominent die crack (also as made) from 6 o'clock on the rim. The Bank of New York Hoard reportedly contained 726 Newman 13-Xs out of a total of 1,641 Fugio coppers. It is also one of the easiest Fugio die marriages to locate in Mint State. What sets the present example apart from the typically offered piece, however, is the exceptional quality and eye appeal. Equal to the finest Fugio coppers ever cataloged by this numismatist (JLA), and sure to have no difficulty finding its way into an advanced cabinet. PCGS# 883. NGC ID: 2B8E.
