- 1905-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-64+ (PCGS). Impressive cartwheel luster flashes across both sides of this handsome Near Gem with fantastic eye appeal. Beautiful rose-gold toning dominates and is likely to please even the most discriminating collector. It is thought that the majority of the nearly 2 million double eagles struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1905 were held as backing for gold certificates as very few have been obtained from overseas sources.
