- 1788 New Jersey Copper. Maris 77-dd III (old Maris 78-dd), W-5535. Rarity-2 (for die state). Horse's Head Right, Running Fox Before Lege... Olive-brown with rose-brown high points. Nominally off-center to the top of the obverse, the rim there tight to CAES, reverse likewise off-center, there to the bottom with the rim tight to the sprigs below the shield. Uniform microgranularity engages both sides. Marks are minimal, with no particular obverse mark about to draw the viewer's eye. The reverse exhibits a shallow old crease from the viewer's left bottom rim of the shield downward through the sprig below to the rim. The running fox die marker is in full stride and plainly evident. Choice overall, and a coin that should be seen to be appreciated.
