- 1867 Libertas Americana / J.A. Bolen Store Card. Musante JAB-30, Rulau Ma-Sp 43. Copper. MS-65 RB (NGC). 25 mm. Vivid salmon pink, lilac-blue and pale gold iridescence backlights dominant copper-brown patina on the obverse. The reverse is equally attractive with light toning in glossy-brown and ample original color in vivid rose-orange. Semi-prooflike in finish with a razor sharp strike and expertly preserved surfaces. JAB-30 is one of the most popular Bolen store cards for its fine replication of the famous Libertas Americana design. In 1872, the Libertas die was sold to John W. Kline, who used it for his own store cards. The portrait die, however, is said to have been destroyed by Bolen, removing the possibility of restrikes of this variety.
