1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Oak Tree Shilling. Noe-14, Salmon 11a-Gi, W-530. Rarity-4. Spiny Tree. VF-30 (PCGS). 69.28 grains. Just a beautiful mid-grade example of the variety or type. The smooth, attractive surfaces are mostly deep antique gray with some golden undertones; the devices are lighter gray. The centering is perfect and the legends are complete. A thin and ancient scratch on the right side of the inner reverse is the only defect. Oak Tree shillings that are circulated but show this kind of original eye appeal are very tough to find. Accompanied by two paper envelopes, one clearly quite old, though neither bears handwriting your cataloger recognizes.
