1903-S Morgan Silver Dollar. VAM-2. Top 100 Variety. Small S. AU-58 (NGC). The VAM-2 variety of the 1903-S Morgan Dollar is unique to a single reverse die of this key-date issue. The S mintmark is small and round in shape instead of the usually seen Large S, and it is thought to have been intended for use on a Barber Quarter reverse die. Virtually unknown in Mint State, this variety is also highly elusive in circulated grades, with the present near-Mint example ranking among the finest certified. Brilliant with silver-white surfaces, both sides retain sharp striking detail and vibrant, nearly complete mint bloom. Minimally abraded for the grade, and eagerly awaiting inclusion in an advanced Morgan Dollar VAM set.
