- FROM THE STAR CITY CAC MORGAN COLLECTION. A very popular TOP 100 VAM variety, the Tail Bar is listed in the Red Book as a distinct variety, and is often included in collections that do not specialize in varieties. The name is derived from the die gauge that connects the eagle's tail to the wreath below. This highly lustrous CHOICE Mint State example has a bold, crisp, complete strike. There are a few minor traces of contact on the cheek, but none are distracting to the eye nor are any of them inappropriate for the assigned grade. The eye appeal is great for a 63+; the reverse is near GEM quality for sure. PCGS 201, NGC 73, CAC 21. The last regular MS63 PCGS/CAC sold for $3,120 in September 2018, while a 63+ in that same auction sold for $2,400. The present example looks more like the one that sold for $3,120 than the one that sold for $2,400. The current Collector's Universe value is listed at $3,150.
