- Ex Larry Shepherd Collection, as noted on the insert. WOW, WOW, WOW! This is by far the FINEST J-989 that exists, and is one of the HIGHEST graded Standard Silver patterns regardless of Judd number! This coin is a BEAST! J-989 shows Liberty with her hair tied in a bun, with lower flowing locks at the shoulder. A ribbon with LIBERTY and a single star at the front ties her hair back. Struck in copper with a reeded edge, this is a very challenging low Rarity-7 Standard Silver pattern half dollar. As one would expect for a coin in such a lofty state of preservation the surfaces are immaculate! Flawless, ultra reflective mirrored fields are flashy and brilliant with bold depth of clarity. Incredible RED color shows light violet overtones on the reverse. The edges of the razor sharp devices show fancy pull away toning that leaves the outlines in gold. Aside from a tiny planchet flake and a microscopic fleck or two, this coin is FLAWLESS! PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. Keep this in mind, the world famous Bob R. Simpson Collection contained the former Bass coin, graded a full 1 1/2 points lower and there was not much red left on that iridescent toned PR66 RB and was not CAC. That coin is now on the market for $10,000. The PCGS Price Guide value in PR67+ RB is $15,000. If you are looking for one Standard Silver pattern, this coin should be it! Cert.
