详细说明: 1831 Matron Head Cent. N-12/3. Rarity-1 (Rarity-5 for die state). Large Letters. VG-10 (PCGS). Deep olive-brown with a large area of steel patina across the reverse. Smooth, glossy and rather pleasing for the grade. Full rims all around both sides. A strong double profile is seen from the lower bridge of the nose to the base of the neck. The popular "harpooned whale," this being the late state of the obverse, though not quite terminal. Here, the cud at star 13 has expanded to absorb all of star 13 except for a single point, and it now includes two and a half points of star 12 forming the tail of the "whale." One of the most dramatic cuds in the large cent series and always in demand. Provenance: From the John McBride Collection. Earlier ex John D.
