- PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS AU-53; Countermark: AU Details. KM-129; Basso-56; PNM#6-133; PNM#16-298; PNM#21-VIII-112; Cacho-IX-CS-058; Gil-5-4-3-III; DP-Go12. Type VI Countermark, crowned Y.II. within circle. Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1831-Go MJ Mexico republic 8 Reales; Die style of 1830-43, straight "J" and three periods ":." after date variety (KM-377.8). This alluring countermarked type is rather SCARCEin this wholesome state, free from any detectable cleaning or damage. The countermark on the obverse was applied evenly with some remnants of the host coin's devices visible beneath. With mottled olive-brown toning and plenty of tantalizing original luster remaining, this piece serves as an exceptional example of the type. Estimate: $700 - $1,000.
