- Mint State 1733 8 Reales
MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1733-MoMF. Philip V (1700-46). PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder.
KM-103; Gil-M-8-5b. Small crown, Large dot above assayer's letters. VERY RARE. The second year of issue of New World "Pillar Dollars". During this year the Mexico City Mint was still undergoing the process of modernizing with new minting equipment. Three types of 8 Reales were produced this year which included cobs, klippes, and the milled 8 Reales. For this reason the exact mintage for this type is unknown. It can be certain that is was quite low compared to later dates when the mint was fully equipped for the production of milled coinage. Well struck, lustrous and very attractive with soft grey tone in the open fields and slate amongst the devices. When tilted in the light a lovely sheen of golden and blue hues pop out. An excellent example with good eye appeal.
Estimate: $7,000 - $10,000.
Provenance: From the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation.
