- 1788 Vermont Copper. RR-17, Bressett 14-S, W-2125. Rarity-4. Mailed Bust Right. VF-30.
115.74 grains. Deep golden-brown with varied tan highlights throughout. Surfaces glossy and hard to the unaided eye, with not much change noted under low magnification. Evenly centered on both sides. The obverse is near-perfect in appearance, yielding just a small and natural planchet fissure, as struck, from the rim at 10 o'clock between the O and N to the effigy's head, and another flaw, again, as struck, at the rim at 12 o'clock, with a final note of a faint fissure on the effigy's forehead. Other than that, the obverse is completely free of marks gathered in circulation. The reverse shows an old lamination, as struck, above ET, a teeny rim clip at 4 o'clock, and the carry-over from the obverse flaw at 12 o'clock which manifests itself just to the left of the date, with some central planchet ticks that striking refused to obliterate at the center of Liberty's torso. All told, a choice example of the variety that would fit nicely in any Vermont coppers cabinet currently being formed.
PCGS# 563.
Provenance: Ex: Collection SLT. Paper envelope with attribution and pedigree notes included.
