- S.3801; Wilson and Rasmussen-235 (Rarity 5 - only 6 to 10 specimens known). George IV, 1820-1830. William Wyon (after Chantrey)'s bare head of King facing left, date below. <I>Reverse:</I> Crowned shield by Johann B. Merlen. Edge reeded or milled. Extremely rare, and indeed much rarer than the 1826 Proof Sovereign of which over 300 pieces were reportedly made. This specimen has a light orange/red peripheral tone and beautifully frosted design. The Terner collection 1825 Proof Sovereign fetched (lot 275, Goldberg sale 26 May 2003) over £10,000. NGC graded Proof 63 Ultra Cameo.</B> <BR>Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,500.
