MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1748-Mo MF. Mexico City Mint. Ferdinand VI (1746-59). NGC EF-40. KM-95; cf. Gil-M-4-21; cf. Yonaka-M4-48; Cal-Type 179; Harris-151; Palmer & Almanzar-226; Grove-786. "FERDND" over "PHILIP", no neckmould on tops of pillars. An eye appealing example with traces of multicolored pastel tones mixed within the light gray surfaces. VERY RAREwith evidence of the previous king's name under the new king's name. Neither Gilboy nor Yonaka make mention of this variant which would suggest that they were unaware of its existence. As such, quite interesting and sure to excite the Spanish Colonial specialist. Estimate: $500 - $800.
