- Ex. B. Cohen Collection as noted on the insert. An incredibly RARE Bechtler half eagle, the Kagin-29 is considered R-6+ and in the Allen Collection catalog, the cataloger noted that only 15 specimens were known, including those impounded in institutional holdings. The PCGS CoinFacts Condition Census shows coins ranging from MS61 to XF45, making this example about mid-way for this rare variety. Well centered and well struck, this is a pleasing, fresh, CHOICE AU coin. Essentially free of any wear, the surfaces do show some minor marks, but none of which are singularly distracting. Most of what you see is naturally occurring in the planchet. A satiny luster remains in the obverse fields, while the reverse is a little more subdued. Clearly this high grade example was lovingly cared for and stored carefully where it was able to acquire a wonderful orange-gold "skin" and has not been conserved. Struck from an earlier die state than the Allen coin, which had a bold die chip or break between the ER of BECHTLER. PCGS 3, NGC 2. The only AU53 to sell in auction is the above mentioned Allen Collection coin, which was graded by PCGS and sold for $21,150 in March 2017. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $20,000. That coin had an impressive pedigree including the Conway Bolt and Kagin Collections, and served as the Kagin plate coin. This piece is also high end for the grade and has a bold look. Fresh to the market, it has been in a collection since the early 1970s. Take a close look at this territorial rarity and bid accordingly! Precious few survive in any grade, let alone so high a grade. Good luck. Cert. Number 5907482-001 PCGS # 10049.00
