1882 Pattern Liberty Nickel. Judd-1684, Pollock-1886. Rarity-6-. Proof-62 Cameo (NGC). The obverse portrait of Liberty is the same that the Mint used to strike regular issue Liberty Nickels of 1883-1912. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the date 1882 is below. The reverse exhibits a Roman numeral V within a wreath of corn and cotton with the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM inscribed along the upper border. Struck in nickel with a plain edge; the denticulation on both sides is relatively fine.<br />     An untoned specimen with no post-production detractions of note, an area of haziness near the lower-right obverse border represents minor porosity in the planchet (as made). Field-to-device contrast is good, the devices set apart with a satin texture and full striking detail.
