PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. NGC EF-45; Countermark: AU Strong. KM-128; Basso-56; PNM#6-not listed; PNM#16-257; PNM#21-VIII-77; Cacho-IX-CS-73; Gil-5-4-3-III. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Applied to the obverse of an 1834-Go ON Mexico Republic 8 Reales. This lovely example displays an attractive gloss on the host coin, with attractive iridescent color in the fields and a boldly applied countermark. Very little evidence of handling is noticed, making this piece a premium example for the grade assigned. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
