COLLECTION Ex Ford Collection Known as the Sol au buste enfantin, (or infant's bust) this GEM John Law issue that while struck in France and has no real connection to Nouvelle France, however its association with John Law has made it a popular type coin, avidly sought by specialists in colonial era coinage. The FINEST graded by NGC and tied with just three others at PCGS for POP TOP status. A bold luster over rich mahogany-reddish brown surfaces. Well struck, though slightly misaligned on the flan, the dentils are incomplete in some places at the rims. There is a mint made planchet clip at 11:30 on the reverse. The eye appeal is very impressive and the history associated with the issue makes it a great piece for any collector. Ex John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XIII, Stack's January 2006, lot 314; Stack's Philadelphia Americana Auction, September 2009, lot 4010, at $2,070. PCGS 3, NGC 1. This coin brought $2,070 back in 2009. More recently two PCGS-graded examples sold. These are the Syd Martin coin in November 2022 for $1,800 and an example in April 2022 for $3,120. NONE are graded finer at either service.
