While the high grade is certainly noteworthy on this SUPERB 44-S Wartime nickel, it is just a small fraction of what makes it a prime Set Registry candidate. While the obverse is not without its charms it has a thick pearlescent sheen and swirling bands of gold, magenta, tangerine, orange, and emerald green toning that really make this coin POP! We rate the colors as a 9+ on our color scale. There is a tiny tick on Monticello, but it does not take away from the monster like eye appeal! PCGS 13, NGC 20. These have sold in the $1,200 to $1,645 range and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $1,800. Just a single coin is graded higher. While the high grade is wonderful for a high end Registry Set, we believe this coin will end up with the toning aficionado. Bidding will be as fierce and the toning is vibrant for sure! Cert.
