- 1807 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-111a. Rarity-5. Large Stars, 50/20. VF-25 (PCGS). Blended steel gray and olive-charcoal patina to both sides, the surfaces are smooth for the assigned grade and reveal no marks of note. The strike is trivially off center to 9 o'clock on the obverse with no denticulation along the left border on that side. The reverse is drawn less so to the upper left, denticulation uneven on that side, yet essentially complete. The design elements are bold and retain some sharper detail in the protected areas. A scarce and perennially popular die variety/state of the first year 1807 Capped Bust half dollar, Overton-111a exhibits a light curving crack from the top of Liberty's bust to the underside of the chin. The reverse is the 50/20 die, remnants of the underdigit evident both at the upper left and lower right of the primary digit 2.
