- 1903 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. JD-2. Rarity-5+. Proof-63 (PCGS). CAC. The 1903 has one of the more prolific mintages for Proof quarter eagles, with 197 pieces struck for collectors of the time. PCGS CoinFacts estimates about 150 survivors. The offered example is boldly reflective in the fields and the devices are quite frosty, unusual for this year of production. A few minor ticks can be seen on both sides, evidence of time spent in the possession of a non-collector, long ago, perhaps given as a gift. Proof gold coins, regardless of numeric grade are always a prize for collectors.
