- Clearly within the Condition Census of the JR-5 die marriage and this is a BEAUTIFUL, borderline SUPERB GEM. Clearly from the standpoint of naked eye appeal, it is just that, a SUPERB GEM. From a technical standpoint, PCGS got it just right. The luster is bold with intense swirling cartwheels and a hint of semi-PL underlying reflection when rotated in a light. The surfaces are bathed in a Caribbean blue that mingles with a tangerine-gold and pale green accent at the rims. The luster really brings the colors to life! The devices are crisply and fully struck with a rich, frosty texture that is a real delight to behold. A few very tiny, superficial traces of contact can be found with a strong glass, nothing too distracting, especially when taken in view of the whole package. The eye appeal is great! PCGS 7, NGC 11, CAC 5. This was the most recent example to sell in auction, realizing $20,563 in the October 2014 sale of the Gene Gardner Collection. We think the published prices are too low, as this is the only one to sell since March 2010! Just a half dozen are graded finer at PCGS, the finest being a 68 from the Brent Pogue Collection. This is a very important opportunity for the type or date collector. Good luck. Cert. Number 37880166 PCGS # 4520.00
