A truly SPECTACULAR GEM example, this is the FINEST listed in the Noyes Census and ranks as CC# 1 in Bob Grellman's Census and clearly one of the FINEST KNOWN 1840 Large Date cents of all varieties. Just the name Naftzger invokes images of the FINEST large cents! Bold cartwheel luster radiates and swirls boldly on both sides. Sharply struck up devices have a full, crisply defined strike on both sides. Smooth, virtually flawless fields have about 50% original red overall with some faint lilac-violet-blue toning graces the surfaces. With the aid of a strong glass, you can find a small fleck or tiny tick or two, all of which serve as pedigree markers and will forever identify this coin as the famed Naftzger coin.
