- An intriguing token with multiple layers of interest; collected (and cataloged) with Hard Times tokens of 1837, Civil War tokens, and 3 cent pieces. This piece shares the same reverse as the 1837-dated token struck by Feuchtwanger in New York, which is why it is cataloged as a Hard Times token. This Rarity-6 issue is cataloged as HT-267, Low-179A, struck in “German Silver” with a reeded edge. An exceptionally crisp strike is accentuated by a slightly reflective nature in the fields. Iridescent hues subtly further adds to the eye appeal. PCGS 9, NGC 0, CAC 3. Only four are graded higher (all MS64) at PCGS. This issue is rarely seen in such fine grade. This was one of the most recent examples to sell, realizing $8,337.50 in November 2010, the most recent was in March 2015 realizing $6,756.25. The last MS64 realized nearly $10,000 in 2014. If you collect Hard Times or Civil War tokens, or three cent pieces, this important rarity will certainly fit nicely in your collection!
