- FRANCE. Ecu d'Or, ND (1528). Cremieu Mint. Francis I (1515-47). NGC MS-62. Fr-354; Dup-782; Ciani-1082. "écu d'or au soleil du Dauphiné, premiere émission" struck at the Crémieu mint for François I. Obverse: Arms of France quartered with Dauphiné; reverse: floriate cross, dot under 1st letter. Better struck than most with full legends and plenty of luster. In 1540, the dot mintmark system was superseded by letters, much to the relief of present day collectors. Estimate: $1,200 - $1,600.
