This is a RARE early date Proof Seated Liberty half dollar. Only 50 examples were struck and modern scholarship suggests that 30-40 examples survive in all grades. This borderline GEM PR64 is about the median grade for the issue. Deeply and richly toned on both sides, this impressive coin has the eye appeal of a higher grade! Razor sharp definition and sleek, icy smooth mirrors are a delight to behold. Totally original coloration really pops in the light., imparting a glorious visual effect. Only 50 Proofs were struck. PCGS 15, NGC 11. This coin last sold as part of the Dr. Stephen Davidson Collection in our December 2021 Regency Auction for $7,050. Prior to that, a PCGS/CAC coin that brought $10,281 in our December 2019 Regency Auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $11,000. Just a half dozen are graded finer in the designation at PCGS.
