- The finest graded example of this Metric Goloid dollar pattern. The obverse depicts William Barber's head of Liberty originally utilized on the 1877 Half Union $50 patterns. The reverse has the composition spelled out inside of a a cereal wreath. Struck in copper with a reeded edge, Judd has a rating of R-6-, while Pollock lists it at R-7. Rich watery mirrors beam through variegated shades of red. Rich mahogany, magenta, brick, and burnt orange hues accent the ultra smooth surfaces and well struck devices. While the Stella $4 gold pieces are the most famous attempt for an internationally accepted coinage, using a metric composition standard. The Goloid patterns are a part of that very interesting series. PCGS 0, NGC 1. In the 2017 FUN auction, a PCGS PR67 RB realizing $12,338 and a PCGS PR65 RB sold for $11,168 in April 2017. This coin is not even listed right now on the NGC census, and the only RDs are designated CAM, the finest of which is graded PR66 RD CAM--making this the FINEST NUMERICALLY GRADED.
