- Tied for Finest PCGS-Certified 1951 Jefferson Nickel
1951 Jefferson Nickel. MS-67 FS (PCGS).
Satiny surfaces are beautifully toned in a blend of pastel-pink, pale apricot and lilac-blue iridescence. A mintage of 28,552,000 circulation strikes is relatively limited for a 1950s Jefferson nickel issue and, indeed, the 1951 is considered a "better date" even in worn condition. While enough Mint State coins exist to satisfy less discerning collectors, the connoisseur intent on obtaining a fully struck, expertly preserved and visually appealing Superb Gem will likely have to wait many years in between market offerings. For in PCGS MS-67 FS the present coin is a Pop 4/0 strike and condition rarity. The strongest bids are urged from advanced Set Registry participants focusing on this series.
Provenance: From the George "Buddy" Byers Buckeye Collection. Earlier ex Heritage's Atlanta ANA National Money Show Auction of February-March 2014, lot 3781.
PCGS Population: 4; 0 finer.
