1853-FD Octagonal $1. BG-505. Rarity-4. Liberty Head. MS-63 (PCGS). A rare type coin that is a major style and variety needed by a great many collectors of this series. The fields are wholly reflective while the devices are more satiny. Minor plating issues here, with tiny surface voids noted in the fields particularly on the reverse, these are as struck of course. As nice as this variety is ever found, PCGS has seen five examples this well preserved, but none finer. A prize for the California fractional gold specialist, as the Octagonal Gold dollar is a key issue to collect.
