The 1902-O quarter comes from a mintage of 4,748,000, but is a RARITY in any Mint State grade; over the course of the last 35 years, PCGS and NGC combined have graded 130 examples between MS61 and MS68. EXCESSIVELY RARE in SUPERB GEM grades, at PCGS this is the SECOND HIGHEST GRADED with just a single MS67+ finer. An incredible frosty, satiny sheen glows from the surfaces. The centers are a creamy white, essentially untoned silver. Both sides have a bold frame of deep, dappled aubergine tones; the reverse is more toned than the obverse. Sharply struck and devoid of serious marks, this high grade example is worthy of any top ranking set. PCGS 1, NGC 0. This coin sold twice in 2020, realizing $13,800 in June and $18,600 in January. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $20,000. We think today, with the market stronger than it was in June 2020, it should bring a stronger price.
