High magnification and careful examination fails to reveal the slightest hint of Adolph Weinman's monogram, yet it is not immediately apparent that the dies were heavily lapped prior to striking this example. The entire surface, virtually untoned yet still showing faint yellowish cast, appears to be free from hairlines.
