详细说明: 1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 25-S, W-4980. Rarity-5. Straight Plow Beam, Eye in Neck. VF-30 (PCGS). 150.6 grains. An especially sharp example of a variety unknown in private hands in grades above VF. A blend of mahogany and dark olive in the fields contrasts with lighter design elements. Glossy but a bit encrusted from ground exposure, more so on the reverse than the obverse. The obverse is aligned to 9:30 or so, with broad denticles at right, while the obverse is barely aligned to the left. Exceptionally sharp for one of these, a rival for detail of the Dr. Gordon Shaw piece we sold in 2017. Several of the coins in the Condition Census have nearly identical sharpness. The 2019 EPU coin was only graded VF-20 (PCGS), but it was exceptionally pretty. Syd Martin's was VG-10 (PCGS). We haven't sold a higher graded Maris 25-S in decades.
