- MEXICO. 4 Escudos, 1858/7-GoPF. NGC AU-53. Fr-83; KM-381.4. Richard Long commented in 2003, "The 1858 is a rare coin...no AU or BU are known to exist." We see a few other examples in archived records, all well worn and generally poorly struck. This example is evenly struck, but the relief is shallow. The overdate is very bold and a small planchet flaw is observed in the obverse field above the assayer's initials. Quite lustrous, this may perhaps be the finest known. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
