- THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION, PART IV A GEM example of this low mintage date. Only 4,400 half dollars were struck in 1884, as the mint focused its efforts in churning out tens of millions of Morgan dollars. This is a satiny MS65 with a rich mint frost and some reflective, Prooflike tendencies in the fields that become readily apparent as you rotate the coin in a light, especially on the reverse. The eye appeal is decent with a sharp strike and some faint gold. PCGS 19, NGC 21. The most recent non-CAC approved example to sell in auction was an NGC-graded example that realized $4,560 in March 2021. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,000.
