Lot 1819 1924-D. PCGS graded MS-63.Lovely golden toning on both sides. A nice example for this scarce date. Here again, just over 3 million were struck for circulation but the massive meltings of the 1930s devastated this issue leaving around 1200-1250 pieces that exist today, the balance being turned into gold bricks held in Fort Knox. This date is ranked as the 14th rarest issue from the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series based on the number known today, not the number struck. Clean surfaces are the rule here, with good luster and rich vibrant appeal. An important offering for the specialist in this series.
