- Ex Eliasberg Collection, as noted on the insert. An important, VERY CHOICE grade example of this KEY Standing Liberty quarter overdate. Among the RAREST issues in the series, this MS64 is bested by just seven grading events at PCGS in the non-FH designation; and we believe that there is some duplication in the MS64 level, as coins get cracked out and resubmitted in hopes of an even loftier grade. Glowing, satiny mint frost gleams on the surfaces of this example. Delicate iridescent gold and soft pastel highlights are noted over brilliant pearly silver patina. Nicely struck overall, with the original Eliasberg description (April 1997, lot 1629) as having about 60% of the details on the head. Some of the brads on the shield are likewise softly impressed, typical of this rarity. There are a couple of tiny ticks on the reverse field, all that is keeping it from a GEM grade. The visual allure is very pleasing. This variety, despite the 18/7 feature being quite bold, it was not generally known until the 1930s. The Walter Breen claimed that the first auction appearance for a Mint State 18/7-S was in Barney Bluestone's December 1937 auction. Over the years and publicity, Mint State examples are very rare, and even well worn examples are illusive. This pedigreed MS64 will fit the bill for any advanced collector! Ex. Louis E. Eliasberg Collection, Bowers & Merena/ Stack's, April 1997, lot 1629; Larry H. Miller Collection, Stack's Bowers, December 2020, lot 1071. PCGS 31, NGC 15. In its last appearance, this coin realized $31,200 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $40,000. This wonderful example should bring a strong bid from the advanced Registry Set collector. Boasting one of the greatest pedigrees in all of numismatics, we have no doubt there will be stiff competition for this important 20th century rarity. Cert. Number 50017236 PCGS # 5726
