Gorgeous, simply gorgeous! Every thing about this GEM is! Wonderfully brilliant underlying watery mirrors beam from below a rich blue, orange, and crimson-purple patination on both sides, though the center of the reverse is left partially untoned. Well struck and virtually pristine, this GEM Proof 1881 quarter is a delight to behold! Only 975 Proofs were struck. PCGS 27, NGC 27, CAC 8. The toning is more even and more vibrant than the recently sold James Allaire Millholland example in March 2023 for $3,240. Prior to that one selling the last PCGS/CAC example sold in April 2012.
