- Frosty light silver with delicate steel gray toning in protected areas. The fields are slightly reflective in protected areas. Just a light touch of friction on the devices and a few trivial contact marks, including a couple thin, very light nicks in the field under the P in PARENS. This is an original strike in silver with a reeded edge. The Castorland medals (which are actually French Jetons) refer to a proposed French settlement (known as Castorland) in Carthage, New York. These pieces were struck in France and given to directors of the colonizing company for their attendance at board meetings. While the restrikes made from these dies are relatively common, the original strikes are very rare. Early die state, before the reverse began to show signs of rust. The edge reeding is strong. Weight 234.7 grains. <BR>Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
